"And He..."
A portrait of a gentle soul
PORTRAITCATPHOTOGRAPHY
I would like to introduce to you our cat “Andy”. Andy is the subject of my favorite image of the 2024 Bugeye Visions Calendar and August’s featured image. I was straightening up from an unsuccessful photo shoot involving our Christmas Nativity Scene collection. Dottie had just left to go to her weekly Saturday luncheon with a dear friend. I looked up and Andy was sitting at my eye level, on top of a china curio cabinet. He was giving me this look. So, I took his picture. And I am glad that I did. This is an enlargement of the original focusing only on his face. This image was truly transformed when I switched from RGB color to “Black and White”. The eyes, while they are still a very dominant feature, became a more integrated part and not the stars of this image. And, without the distraction of color, the hairs in his fur start to resemble brush strokes on a painting. I find it captivating. And as to what he was thinking about at the time I took his picture I will leave it up to you to decide. I have seen that face many times before and I have a good idea of my own as to just what it is.

When we adopted Andy he came home with the given name of Percy. That name really did not work for everyone involved, including Andy. So the quest for finding his new name began. What could we call him that would be appropriate and fit his personality? Throwing out random names just led down dead end roads. So we started listing his qualities. Such as, he has a very loving and kind soul. And he was very gentle with Chloie, our female cat who lived with us at the time. And he just loves attention/loving. And he fits in perfectly as the beta to our alpha cat Joey. The list went on and on. And that’s when it came to us. His name should be Andhe because of all of the “and he…” attributes he has. And so Andy (we went with a more traditional spelling) was finally welcomed formally into our home and into our hearts. That is now over ten years ago and he is still the same sweet pea like he was when he came to live with us. I guess that is what happens when you are created out of “Andymatter”.
