American Goldfinch

This month’s calendar subject is a very handsome bird. The male American Goldfinch was just sitting calmly (for a Goldfinch) and munching his sunflower seed. I had been hoping that he would turn and give me his yellow breast frontal view but he never did. So you take what you are given and I was not disappointed that I got his back profile instead. I feel that his eye, the black accent on his face, his black wings, and the black plant hanger provides the perfect amount of contrast to his brilliant yellow plumage. And because I had the zoom lens extended out to maximum, his background blurred perfectly.
